Here is a list of Holy Cities for lesser known or not so popular religions or religious sects in the world as viewed by their devotees and followers.

Some lesser known religions or sects have their own sacred cities too like Mouridism in Africa, Tenrikyo in Japan, Sikhism of India, Church of Scientology and Community of Church in the United States.

Touba City, Senegal – Sacred City for Mouridism

Touba City is the holy city for Mouridsm, a large Islamic Sufi order. The city is also the burial place of Mouridism founder – Shaik Aamadu Bamba Mbakke. The name of city means “Felicity” and the followers are called Mourides which means “one who desire”.

Tenri City, Japan – Sacred City for Tenrikyo



Tenri City is a unique city of Japan for it is the only city in the country to be named after a religious group called Tenrikkyo. This Japanese city in Nara is the holy city for the new religious movement Tenrikyo, a monotheistic religion founded by a woman named Nakayama Miki.

Clearwater, USA – Church of Scientology

Nanded City, India – Sikhism

Nanded City is sacred to Sikkhism. It is located in Maharashtra, India and is famous for the Hazur Sahib Gurudwara.
