Beautiful places to see while in Indonesia.

Indonesia, the largest archipelago in the world with 17,508 islands is haven to thousands of tourists. These islands showcase some of Nature’s best specially beautiful beaches and natural rainforests, magnificent structures of early centuries, and remnants of Hindu and Chinese culture. Here are some of the “must see” islands of Indonesia.

Komodo National Park

Komodo National Park situated between the islands of Sumbawa and Flores is home to the famous Komodo dragons and sanctuary for many endangered species. Established in 1980, the area consists of three large islands: Komodo, Rinca and Padar and 26 islets. In 1986, the Park was declared a World Heritage Site and a Man and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.



Other animals that inhabit the islands include the orange-footed scrub fowl, Timor deer, the native Rinca rat, water buffalo, wild boar (babi liar), wild horses (kuda liar), long-tailed macaques, the lesser sulphur-crested cockatoo palm civets, nosy friarbird, Russel’s pit viper, cobra, and fruit bats. It is also home to thousands of fish species, 70 species of sponges, and 260 species of exotic coral. Visitors will have fun scuba diving for the park is home to at least 14 species of whales, dolphins, manta rays, ocean sunfish, pygmy seahorse, clown frogfish, false pipefish, clown frogfish, and blue-ringed octopus. Komodo National Park is indeed one of its kind.

Bali

Bali is located at the farthest west of Lesser Sunda Islands, between Java and Lombok. Picturesque coral reefs enclosed the island, and several white sands beaches can be found. Bali is known for its natural beauty, culture, art, music, paintings, sculpture and metalworking.

Borobudur

Borobudur is a Buddhist temple located about 40 kilometers northwest of Yogyakartain Magelang of Central Java, Indonesia. This Buddhist stupa is built about 800AD and is deemed the largest single Buddhist temple in the world. It is now listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. The monument sits atop a hill 265 m above sea level. The Borobudur stupa comprises 9 concentric terraces; three circular platforms and six square platforms.

At the center of the top terrace lies the main dome, that is located at the center of the top platform, is encircled by 72 Buddha statues. The sculpture represents a replica of cosmos. Borobudur serve as a shrine to the Lord Buddha and at the same time a place for Buddhist pilgrimage. It is the most visited place in Indonesia.

Prambanan Hindu Temple

Prambanan Hindu Temple is located within Central Java. Another UNESCO World Heritage site, the temple complex houses 224 temples: three main temples namely Brahma Temple, Vishnu Temple, and the Shiva Temple. The remaining structures are small shrines which open to one of the four cardinal directions. The temple carries a typical of Hindu temple architecture: tall and pointed architecture.



Krakatoa Island

Krakatoa, also called Krakatau, is a group of volcanic island located in the Sunda Strait lying between the islands of Java and Sumatra. The remains of the volcano that erupted on 1883 occupies much of the land area of the main island (also called Rakata). The Ujung Kulon National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site lies within this area. It is home to the now endangered Javan rhinoceros, 57 rare species of flora and notable faunas. Visitors may trek within the isle, and divers may explore magnificent lava formations and volcanic stones that were submerged in the sea, which could be explored by experienced divers. Tourists may trek within the isle. Swimming, fishing and snorkeling are also allowed.

Lombok

Lombok Island is located in West Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia. Within the island are several cities, with each city offers exciting and enjoyable activities for visitors. Traveling within the island, tourists should not miss riding the cidomo, which is a horse-drawn cart. Tourists may also add to their itinerary visiting Mt. Rinjani, the second highest Indonesian volcano.

The prominent cities include Mataram (the largest of the mainland cities), Bangsal, Kuta, and Senggigi. While in Mataram, visitors may venture into the Mayura Garden and Water Park, known for its magnificent landscapes, superb architecture, history, land pond. Other notable places in the city the Museum Negeri and Narmada Park. Bangsal,on the other hand, serves as a gateway to Gili Islands where tourists have all day long surfing, snorkeling, and scuba diving in the reefs. Kuta offers beautiful beaches and surfing spots. While Pura Batu Bolong,a small temple is Senggigi’s famous tourist destination.

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah or “Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park” is located in East Jakarta. This culture-based recreational area that shows the culture of the country occupies about 250 acres. There are fourteen museums in TMII, ten gardens spread over the park that include a flower garden, a medicinal-plant garden and a cactus garden. Apart from these structures, the park also has small zoos, several small parks, theaters, and other recreation facilities for tourists.
