Since thrill seekers experienced their first roller coaster ride at Coney Island, New York, on Jan. 20, 1885, the rides have gone a long way. Modern day roller coasters have utilize top-of-the-art technology — that makes the ride more, exciting, thrilling and scarier. Below are 12 of the world’s insane and intense roller coasters. Son of Beast: the world’s longest, fastest all-wood roller coaster




Son of Beast is the world’s longest, fastest all-wood roller coaster located at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, United States. It was also the only wooden roller coaster with a 118 foot tall vertical loop, which was removed in 2006 after an incident. Once riders are secured, the train, leaves the station and makes some short hops before slowly climbing a 218 foot tall lift hill. Upon reaching the top, the train makes a left hand turn, navigating over to the first drop then descents 214 feet to the ground. Then the train makes a right hand curve rising steadily up to 168 feet. It then makes a left hand double helix (Rose Bowl). After finishing the helix, the train passes into a straight section of track, makes one final helix, several short hills, and finally leading back to the station. Eejanaika: An insane roller coaster



Eejanaika is a steel 4-D roller coaster at Fuji-Q Highland in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi, Japan. The roller coaster’s design features a vertical drop and inversions, and passenger cars that can rotate 360-degrees forwards or backwards in a controlled spin. There are five inversions that includes: Inside raven turn (½), full-full/zero-g roll (1), half camelback twist (½), outside raven turn (½), and half camelback twist (½).

Furious Baco: Europe’s fastest roller coaster




Furious Baco is the fastest roller coaster in Europe rocketing at 83.9 mph in 3.5 seconds. A hydraulically-launched 850 meters long coaster, Furious Baco is located at PortAventura in Salou, Catalonia, Spain. The ride features several a number of big turns, coupled with long inline twist, and ends through a turn over the lake. Another novel feature of the ride is the barrel-themed side cars, where riders experience the greatest floorless feeling, free from any track above or under them.

Colossus: THORPE PARK – the world’s first 10 looping coaster




Colossus with a record breaking 10 inversions is a must ride at Thorpe Park in Surrey, England. A Sit Down Roller Coaster, Colossus is 850m, 30 m tall and with a top speed of 72km/h. 98. The lift hill climbs up to 98ft, and then go down the curved drop. The ride’s loop’s includes: Vertical loop, Heartline Roll, Quad Heartline Roll, Cobra Roll, and Double Corkscrew. Ride Duration: 90 seconds

Tower of Terror: the world’s fastest and tallest flat ride




Tower of Terror, located at Dreamworld in the Gold Coast, Australia, is the fastest and tallest roller coaster on a tower. Tower of Terror use magnetic linear induction motors to swiftly accelerates its passengers to 160.9 km/h in seven seconds. The track then pitches vertically at 90 degrees, before free-falling back down to earth backwards. During the entire ride, riders experience 6.5 seconds of weightlessness. The ride lasts little over 15 seconds.

Kingda Ka: the world’s tallest and fastest roller coaster




Kingda Ka, located at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, USA, shattered all existing world records for roller coaster speed and height when it opened on May 21, 2005. The hydraulic launch roller coaster zooms horizontally from 0 to 206 km/h in 3.5 seconds and blasting 139 meters high into the sky.

Dodonpa: the roller coaster with the highest launch acceleration




Dodonpa located at Fuji-Q Highland, Yamanashi, Japan holds the record as the roller coaster with the highest launch acceleration. Using compressed air for launch, the coaster attains its top speed of 107 mph (G-force: 4.3 G’s) in just 1.8 seconds! The launch is followed by a huge, extensive curve, follows the launch then it climbs the 170 foot top then descends. The angle of descent is 90 degrees. Ride Time: 55 seconds
